TATUYA ISHII was born in 1959. After graduating from high school, he came to Tokyo to be a painter. He made his musical debut in 1985 as a member of KOME KOME CLUB, where he wrote music, lyrics, and did theatrical design/stage sets, and costumes. KOME KOME CLUB received the MTV Japan International Viewers Choice Award in 1989 for KOME KOME WAR and in 1990 for FUNK FUJIYAMA. He released more hit songs like ROMAN HIKOU (Romantic Flight), KIMI GA IRUDAKEDE(If Only You are Here). While being in a famous band, he expanded his artistic repertoire to work as a film director, releasing Kappa in 1994, and ACRI in 1996. After KOME KOME CLUB disbanded in 1997 (later reuniting in 2006), he began his career as a solo artist. His ever-elaborate activities have been seemingly limitless, including national concert tours, art performances, live orchestral concerts and more. As well as musical activities, he was the interior designer for OSAKA HEP FIVE, a mall in downtown Osaka, was the producer of the regular show, Nature’s Wisdom, at the Aichi World Expo in 2005, and in 2008, went on to create the mascot AIRA for the Japan Iron & Steel Federation's 150th anniversary of the birth of modern steel production in Japan. In addition, as an industrial designer, he has designed many items such as laptops, mobile phones, jewelry, and tableware. He has also created many works of art, and held his own exhibitions, including Mirai Iseki Ten(Future Ruins) in 1994, Kuusou Bijutsukan(Imaginary Museum) in 1997, Sho Ten(Rising) in 1999, NUDE in 2002, Venus White in 2006, and HEART GALLERY in 2011. KAODAMA, in 2008, presented his series of kaodama(face spirits), mystical and spiritual objects created using daruma from ancient times, and exhibited at the Mori Arts Center Gallery (2008), at the Nara Yakushiji Temple (2008), in Kyoto(2010), and in New York(2011). Since 2002 he has held his Love and Peace project called GROUND ANGEL annually. This project was viewed in the end of year by over one million people in total in Yokohama (2002-2004), Hiroshima (2005-2006), and Tokyo (2007-2013). In 2011, after the Great Tohoku Earthquake in March, he created a special song TSUYOKU IKIYOU(Let’s live strong) as the GROUND ANGEL 10,000 people’s song project. The 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 led him to start GROUND ANGEL in 2002, and since March 11 of its 10th year, it has mainly focused on supporting victims of the Great Tohoku Earthquake.
